It’s hard to believe that El Diablo’s Social Club has now reached its 9th Birthday, but here we are still keeping the disco fire burning! And where better to celebrate our almost-decade than at Manchester’s freshest venue, 2022 – an amazing Berlin/New York-esque basement full of vibes run by members of the EDSC team.

Eric Duncan has been a firm favourite around EDSC since he played as part of Rub ‘N’ Tug with cohort Thomas Bullock for our 3th birthday all those years ago. Since then Eric has played for us nearly every year as Rub ‘N’ Tug or on his own and always rocks the party. He’s been really busy over the last year or so as one half of Still Going (with Liv Spencer). He’s also running the Still Going Records project, hitting the spot with two releases so far. Also Eric’s ‘Dr Dunks’ moniker has been surfacing more recently with a Seahawks remix and his ultra limited Golf Channel releases with the Rhythm Odyssey.

Next up and a late addition to the line up is the lovely Miss Danielle Moore. It’s been hard to pin Danielle over the last year or so as Crazy P reach dizzy new heights with two critically acclaimed albums on the bounce; they’ve been all over the world and back with their amazing live and soundsystem sets. Another El Diablo’s favourite and part-time resident we’re glad Danielle could make it for this one.

Bringing up the rear are as ever are El Diablo’s very own Neil Diablo and Dave Walker.

PSST! Here comes EDSC 001

Watch out for EDSC001 – our new label’s debut 12″ –  hitting all good record shops mid-June. It faetures Italian stallion Lup Ino plus remixes by Ron Basejam, Begin and Neil Diablo.

The heat is growing on a new set of Neil Diablo edits released this week on Kat Records.  The limited EP, available now from Piccadilly Records, features four hard-to-find tracks given the classic Diablo stretch-aaaaand-relax treatment.

Kicking things off is ‘Cannae Believe’, an Italo / New York dubbed out-disco slo-mo electro-disco cut with synth stabs and ‘Love Is The Message’-esque pads.  Next up is ‘Disco Special’, a ‘walking’ mid-tempo melter which drops guitar-led Balearica, funky bass, arpeggiated synths, syncopated hand claps and space toms a-plenty before lifting off into string-filled ecstasy.

On the flip we have ‘For Your Love’ is a slinky 2-step soul gem originally released in 1982 by the Fats Gaines Band and featuring sublime vox by Zorina. Stretched, diced and strung beautifully back together, this has summer anthem written all over it. Finishing things off is ‘Christina Debs, Behind Bars”.  Originally out on Ze Records and produced in Detroit by Don Was in 1984, this  nu-wave disco chugger adds another dimension to proceedings and this EP feels all the mightier for it.

Because the ever-prolific Neil Diablo has put together another change-of-season mix CD for gentlemen’s couturier du jour, the wonderful TukTuk clothing. Plotting a fathoms-deep and distinctly nautical course through Balearic groovers old and new, this meditative blend will take you where you need to go, NYCE & SLO. Nicolas Jaar, one of the undisputed stars of 2011, opens the set with his new Darkside alias, before John Martyn’s classic ‘Dealer Version’ and Todd Terje’s ‘Myggsommer’ steer us into gently pacier territory. Fold in a bit of Ta’Boo, Linda Di Franco and Al Usher, and you have the perfect accompaniment to a nap on the bow.

Last year Maxxi Soundsystem’s smash rework of Alexander O’ Neal’s ‘Criticize’ sent dancefloors on an epic joyride through electrofunk, classic house and 80s pop, all on one massive-selling twelve inch. Far from your average DJ tool, the track successfully blurred the boundaries between re-edit, remix and original production and garnered swift follow-up releases on NeedWant and Permanent Vacation. Since then, Maxxi a.k.a. Sam Watts has been stormin’ it up and down the country, whilst overseeing Brighton’s renowned Schtumm! parties with DJ partner Neal Lewis. BOOGIE WONDERLAND

Over the last ten years  the cast of the Futureboogie team has changed, but original members Joe90 and El Harvo are still holding things down, keeping all the plates spinning, and making things go bump in the night. At the forefront of the discerning disco scene, the list of parties they have put on, played at and danced at is as long as the list of international DJs and live acts that they have appeared alongside. Also an artist agency with the likes of Crazy P, Ashley Beedle and Quantic on their books, Futureboogie know everything there is to know about setting a dancefloor alight and keeping it blazing.
