The next installment of Manchester institution El Diablo’s Social Club’s ‘To Rack & Ruin’ edits series comes from Preston lad Paul Watson AKA Watson.
Paul has been a friend of the El Diablo’s crew for many years since working at Fat City – one of Manchester’s finest record shops which is now sadly defunct. The discovery of the edit however was due to Cottam playing it at a Paper Recordings party in Manchester early in 2012.
Side A is a splendid edit of the massive Millie Jackson track which was sampled for the Carl Craig remix of Tom Trago’s – ‘Use Me Again’ track.
Side B is a sleazy slo number with some lovely layered beats.
Early DJ support comes from Cottam, Crazy P, Eric Duncan and PBR Streetgang.
Here we have a lovely mix to brighten up a miserable day. Max did this for us a couple of months ago which we forgot to put up! oh well its here now.

After nine years at the forefront of Manchester’s all-conquering underground disco scene, El Diablo’s Social Club take the next logical step on their daredevil journey to rack‘n’ruin with the launch of a brand new original material-focused record label.
The debut release in this auspicious series is ‘Funsick’, a lovely little hip grinder from Italian nu-boogie producer Lup Ino, plus three choice remixes from El Diablo’s stalwarts Ron Basejam (aka Crazy P’s James Baron), Begin (Back to Basics DJ James Holroyd) and EDSC mainman Neil Diablo.
Ron Basejam serves up the headline mix – a deep and chunky brain-bugger that will send Croatian coastal boat parties into an unseaworthy frenzy, whilst Begin turns in a much woozier affair – all floating, disembodied vocals and Valium-enhanced washes of synth. Neil Diablo’s own ‘Luv Dub’ is just that: a dubbed-out, loved-up, stripped back version of the original that makes every bass lick and 808 cowbell count.
Limited to 500 copies, ‘Funsick’ will be a big turn on for Dam-Funk followers, fans of the PPF boogie and 80s soul-heads everywhere. Dig in.
The heat is growing on a new set of Neil Diablo edits released this week on Kat Records. The limited EP, available now from Piccadilly Records, features four hard-to-find tracks given the classic Diablo stretch-aaaaand-relax treatment.
Kicking things off is ‘Cannae Believe’, an Italo / New York dubbed out-disco slo-mo electro-disco cut with synth stabs and ‘Love Is The Message’-esque pads. Next up is ‘Disco Special’, a ‘walking’ mid-tempo melter which drops guitar-led Balearica, funky bass, arpeggiated synths, syncopated hand claps and space toms a-plenty before lifting off into string-filled ecstasy.
On the flip we have ‘For Your Love’ is a slinky 2-step soul gem originally released in 1982 by the Fats Gaines Band and featuring sublime vox by Zorina. Stretched, diced and strung beautifully back together, this has summer anthem written all over it. Finishing things off is ‘Christina Debs, Behind Bars”. Originally out on Ze Records and produced in Detroit by Don Was in 1984, this nu-wave disco chugger adds another dimension to proceedings and this EP feels all the mightier for it.
Rave reactions from the likes of Dave Harvey, Ashley Beedle, Huw Morgan, Tristan da Cunha, Andy Wilson, Jim Baron aka Ron Basejam, Bonar Bradberry, Red Rack ‘Em, Andy Ash, Sean Brosnan, Kev Beadle, and many more.
Spring is here again, tender age in bloom. And how do we know? Because the ever-prolific Neil Diablo has put together another change-of-season mix CD for gentlemen’s couturier du jour, the wonderful TukTuk clothing. Plotting a fathoms-deep and distinctly nautical course through Balearic groovers old and new, this meditative blend will take you where you need to go, NYCE & SLO. Nicolas Jaar, one of the undisputed stars of 2011, opens the set with his new Darkside alias, before John Martyn’s classic ‘Dealer Version’ and Todd Terje’s ‘Myggsommer’ steer us into gently pacier territory. Fold in a bit of Ta’Boo, Linda Di Franco and Al Usher, and you have the perfect accompaniment to a nap on the bow.
TukTuk Summer is a limited edition and comes handily housed in a denim fabric pocket with button fastening.

Counting the days before you get to Croatia this year? Need a little sonic sunshine in the meantime? Head down to our Garden Festival warm-up with two of the event’s hottest bookings: Maxxi Soundsystem and Futureboogie, plus fellow uphill gardeners Neil Diablo and Dave Walker.
DO IT TO THE MAXXI
Last year Maxxi Soundsystem’s smash rework of Alexander O’ Neal’s ‘Criticize’ sent dancefloors on an epic joyride through electrofunk, classic house and 80s pop, all on one massive-selling twelve inch. Far from your average DJ tool, the track successfully blurred the boundaries between re-edit, remix and original production and garnered swift follow-up releases on NeedWant and Permanent Vacation. Since then, Maxxi a.k.a. Sam Watts has been stormin’ it up and down the country, whilst overseeing Brighton’s renowned Schtumm! parties with DJ partner Neal Lewis. Come down to Soup Kitchen and watch him blow apart our little rave cave.
Over the last ten years the cast of the Futureboogie team has changed, but original members Joe90 and El Harvo are still holding things down, keeping all the plates spinning, and making things go bump in the night. At the forefront of the discerning disco scene, the list of parties they have put on, played at and danced at is as long as the list of international DJs and live acts that they have appeared alongside. Also an artist agency with the likes of Crazy P, Ashley Beedle and Quantic on their books, Futureboogie know everything there is to know about setting a dancefloor alight and keeping it blazing.
If you missed out on the limited vinyl releases from our very own Evil K’Neil (AKA Neil Diablo) then they are all now available to download exclusively through Junodownload.com. These releases have been supported far and wide from the likes of Eric Duncan, Horse Meat Disco, Crazy P to name a few. Listen to them here…
Greg Wilson never disappoints to rock the party! For those who didn’t manage to get to El Diablo’s last Saturday, here’s Greg’s live mix recorded at the Soup Kitchen Basement. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did.
