SALFORD

5PM TIL VERY LATE

BBQ FROM 5PM PROVIDED BY SOUP KITCHEN

It’s P-A-R-T-A-Y time, we’ve only gone and made it to 8 YEARS OLD somehow. Don’t quite know how….but we have, and we are as keen as mustard to celebrate as raucously as humanly possible with all of our friends and comrades.  Sticking to our nu-nomadic principles, after last month’s  KRAAK gallery soiree with James Priestley, we are emigrating to the City Of Salford for an all day Balearic BBQ, preceding an eve of epic rave over at Islington Mill.

Our special guest is something of a hot ticket yet also rather enigmatic on the slo-mo house and discoid scene. His untitled series of 12 inch EP’s and his down tempo house, disco & techno DJ sets, position him alongside folks such as Mark-E and The Revenge as contemporaries, whilst at the same time ensuring that there is no one currently, that sounds quite like man of the moment, COTTAM !

Since his first release in Sept 2009, Cottam has now put out four eponymous EPs and worked with greats like Ilija Rudman.  Having spun techno for year upon year, he had a epiphany of sorts and these days embraces the full influence of his record collection.  Last year’s Causes Of Colour mix over on the Warm blog was in many people’s end of year lists and it’s a coup to bring him back to Manchester in his current guise and for your entertainment.

It’s Bank Holiday weekend, it’s day n night, it’s our Birthday !  No excuses, let’s get down and party.

EL DIABLO’S SOCIAL CLUB

JAMES PRIESTLEY
NEIL DIABLO (EVIL K’NEIL)
DAVE WALKER

FRIDAY 22ND APRIL
10:30PM-4AM

KRAAK GALLERY
11 STEVENSON SQUARE (behind Hula bar)
NORTHERN QUARTER
MANCHESTER

Having bid adieu to our sanctuary of recent times, to take up the road less travelled back to the underground and irregular, we present our latest dance soiree in the clandestine KRAAK Gallery. It has been decreed that our focus shall be on jackin’ basement raves, surprise bijous bashes and periodical uber gigs. Stay vigilant and always be prepared.

And thus it is fitting that we invite a fellow who is synonymous with stealth clubbing to help us embark on this new period. James Priestley (alongside Giles Smith) is the founding Father of the Sabbath rave-behemoth that is SecretSundaze and consequently James has laid the blueprint for a multitude of copyists to follow their formula of cutting edge House and Techno + summer Sunday afternoons + evolving venue = triumphant shindig. Imitation being the greatest form of flattery and all that.

Having a style that of course envelopes the house and techno of SecretSundaze, Mr Priestley errs to the side of diversity also. A musical upbringing and a hunger for sounds of variety have led James to form the GoZilla! night that showcases the more alternative flavours out there, something also reflected in his current CAMP project. And it’s this element of eclectic that James is keen to exploit for us tonight. Expect House, Techno, Disco, Balearic, Bulgaric, expect whatever, expect everything, expect nothing. Expect a super riotous rave that’s reet off the dial.

It’s with great pleasure that we invite James to make his Diablos debut. Numbers will be uber limited and given how many hoards we turned away from the sell-out Greg Wilson party, you will need to pounce on a ticket with a certain degree of urgency.

Tickets £8.00 in advance from:

A new decade and new beginnings for all, us included. Our first party of the year, in conjunction with the amazing Garden Festival, just so happens to be our last at the Deaf Institute. In the name of keeping things fresh and on point, we’ll be taking affairs a little more clandestine and underground…keep your eyes peeled for more details of basement business and periodical uber-raves comin’ at yer very soon !

And who better …to bid us adieu from our current home than one of our very first and very finest guests from back in the day (2004), Mr Greg Wilson!

Since that Sunday evening in Tribeca, not only has Greg played for us numerous other times, he’s also gone on to pretty much (re)conquer the world of disco once again, touring the world and gigging relentlessly as a new generation of clubber falls under his charm. The king of the edit, Ruthless Rap Assassin producer, first person to beat match on British TV, chronicler of black origin music and now one of the most prolific and skilled remixers around, it’s been a long time coming but it’s an immense honour to welcome our old friend back with his trusty Revox reel to reel, for a super exclusive 3 hour set!

Come on down and help us say farewell to our home for the last three years with one of the true masters of the DJing art by taking the roof off the Music Hall one last time. In association with The Garden Festival, the Adriatic proto-Ibiza, this show forms part of their official Garden Get Together Tour tour.

The Garden Festival runs from 6th – 13th July in Petracane, Croatia. For more info and line ups check out http://www.thegardenfestival.eu/ – Trust me, it’s amazing!!

Next up is another of our favorite guests round here at El Diablo’s; Mr Eric Duncan who has somewhat of a busy year all in all. His releases last year have been immense from all the amazing Still Going remixes (Coyote, Bo’ Tox etc.)  his Dr Dunks remixes (Bubble Club etc.) to his amazing  on Japanese imprint COMBI records and the new Keep it Cheap imprint are all causing a stir. DJ Havey even rates him as the best editer in the world right now. Bum the bonfires and get down. Check out a mix from the man from earlier this year below.

Summers now a distant memory, or perhaps just an urban myth, Autumn is upon us and folk congregate indoors where it’s cosy and warm. If they’re completely soft, that is. The people with a zest for life are back out and on it, demanding the worlds premiere DJs to sate their appetites for rave… And thus we welcome back DJ preemo extraordinaire, MAURICE FULTON, he’s the man with the ball and he’s better than anybody else !

Yes, Maurice is back again. You’ll recall his last appearance on NYE 2008, where he kept the whole Dancehall packed to the rafters, whooping and screaming ’til almost 7am! Not a space on the floor all night ! Our favourite guest so far and a producer / remixer whose leftfield genius never disappoints. His sets cover the ground between Techno and Balearic, sublimely unpredictable and impossible not to dance too. We keep asking Maurice back, he’s just that good and if you’ve never heard him play before make sure you aint no damn fool again ! He puts records out on the reg with the likes of DFA, Tirk, Warp and Sonar Kollektiv to name a few, the maverick enigma behind albums from Mu, Kathy Diamond and Syclops. Prolific and always exciting. This aint no practice, it’s the real thing ! Get inside and get involved !

We’re back in the house after our adventures at Glastonbury and The Garden Festival and in the zone, bringing da party to Mancunia once more.  Fresh (fresh)…exciting, yes it’s a residents party to lever you into the groove before we unleash our arsenal of stellar guests over the coming months.

That said, our resident, Neil Scott, is no ordinary DJ.  Fast becoming an in demand Disco & House selectors, with bookings a plenty and releases imminent, he’s making a grande name for himself, despite already being a Manchestershire institution, having held residencies around the city for the likes of Electriks and played for just about everyone in the locale. His sets are compelling and his records excelling. You can also find him sometimes behind the counter at Piccadilly Records.

Pulling up to the bumper with Neil is Electriks stalwart David Walker.  Long time Piccadilly Records staffer, Harter St Lounge louche and Nish party monster, Dave rings the bell on average disco DJs and leaves them sprawling in his wake.  Rave and Dave sleep arm in arm and dance cheek to cheek.

Tonight we’ll also be welcoming some surprise guests from our recent summer travels.

Taking the reigns whilst we’re playing at The Big Chill festival are the go-to party hoons from Detroit Public Radio. Kickin’ Pigeon, Alvin. T. Thwomp and Ste Spandex have a rep of the illest repute for bringing the party and thrashing the decks. House, Disco …and Techno doused in Aftershock and puked back up through a vintage Urei mixer, reckless hedonism personified, good times guaranteed. Tune in for the chumps return, mostly modern discotheque vibez for mostly modern people.

Whilst we’re catching some rays and basting ourselves in liqour over in Crotia, we’re passing the baton over to some experienced hands in the shape of That Amazing Thing !

It’s the annual T.A.T. micro-festival, juxtaposing a House, Techno and Disco rave with a sleepy village hall and a camping trip that would have had Baden Powell reaching for the lasers , for which the occassional pop-up party crew are best known. But since 2000, DJ’s Francis Wooff and Mark Haran have tip toed the line line between irregular and erratic with their revered and highly anticipated parties on barges, in basements & lofts and good old fashioned discotheques that leave the regulars wanting more but guessing when it will be. Word of mouth and high on atmosphere, it’s the house party away from home. Musically expect techno to hip hop, afrobeat to soul music, future sounds to classics.

So, That Amazing Thing! are taking over for the night and it’s their 10th Anniversary of keeping tings strictly underground, no mean feat in today’s climate of disposable club nights and overt bandwagon jumping. Come get your freak on and toast a clubbing milestone with some of Manchester’s finest party people y’all.

Bristolian DJ posse, Futureboogie are back in town for a reappearance at our havin’ it little discotheque.  Joe 90, Steve Bongo and disco pirate Dave Harvey are taking a break from their award winning radio show, programming the dance acts at some major league festivals and running their booking agency, to resume record selector and shindig duties here in Mancunia.

After a most triumphant El Diablos debut last summer that pulled down the pants of mediocrity and blasted the roof off the dancehall, the chaps were an almost ever present name on the listings of the festival circuit and this year has seen them capitalise on their popularity to become one of the most in demand acts on the disco/house circuit right now.  A dedication to rave rumpus and a party hard spirit that transcends the dancefloor via the speakers, Futureboogie are synonymous with rump shaking, shape throwing, liquor downing, riotous good times, nationwide and beyond.  It’s the start of the summer, so who better than disco’s barmy army to light the fuse ?  It’s the El Diablo’s Social Club proper before we take a two month holiday (substitutes are lined up) to fulfil DJ commitments abroad, so let’s not mess about. A massive Disco and House romp, all night long babez. Last one in’s a fridge.
