SOUP KITCHEN

SPEAR  ST

MANCHESTER

FRI 18th NOV 10PM ‘TIL 4AM

Following a global festival tour and the recent release of their critically-lauded ‘When We On’ album, disco infiltrators and darlings of Radio 1 Crazy P stop off at Soup Kitchen, M1 to kiss the turf, high-five their homies and lay six hours of flawlessly orchestrated dancefloor drama on an adoring home crowd. The Crazy P Soundsystem show is a throbbing headrush of a ride through deep disco, sweet soul and cinematic house, impeccably chauffeured by Ms. Danielle Moore – a performer who can drive the toughest of audiences into a lurching, sweaty frenzy with her wardrobe alone. Dani will be flanked, as always, by her absurdly handsome co-conspirators James Baron and Chris ‘Hot Toddy’ Todd, with Master of Ceremonies Neil Diablo bringing up the rear.

Don’t miss the opportunity to clamber aboard this most unruly of party buses and witness Crazy P at the height of their powers.

Tickets are a mere six quid and can be procured in advance from Skiddle here.

See you on the dancefloor.

NORMAN JAY

DAVID WALKER

THE DEAF INSTITUTE

MANCHESTER

10PM ‘TIL 4am

£10

El Diablo’s (in conjunction with Strut Records) makes a glorious return to the The Deaf Institute to host an exclusive party with one of the UK’s best-loved  dancefloor doyens, Mr. Norman Jay.

Norman and his brother Joey  first set up the legendary Good Times Soundsystem back in 1981, the start of a 30-year residency at Notting Hill Carnival. From Good Times, Jay’s career burgeoned. He became a key DJ during the ‘80s London rare groove scene, hosting a series of legendary clubs – Shake ‘N’ Fingerpop, High On Hope (inspired by New York’s Paradise Garage) and famed sessions at London’s Bass Clef (later the Blue Note), all of which built his reputation for open-minded soulful selections spanning soul, funk, disco, early house, reggae and hip hop. Jay’s tireless work as a DJ has earned him many accolades – he has appeared on the BBC’s Question Time, and received an MBE for his work in 2002, the first time any DJ had received such an accolade.

This summer Strut Records put out a typically fantastic compilation in celebration of the 30th anniversary of Good Times. Tracks include boogie rarity ‘Dreamin’ by short-lived band Zalmac and Fries & Bridges’ ‘Forever This’, a 4x4 belter featuring an early vocal by chart superstar Cee-Lo Green. Jay touches on independent hip hop with Basement Chemist, jazz grooves courtesy of Kira Neris and Attic Tree, skanking reggae from Jacob Miller and doo-wop soul courtesy of Little Anthony & The Imperials.

El Diablo’s are proud to be hosting the official North West launch party for this excellent release. Do not miss the chance to hear Norman knocking out a roof-lifting set for a reverential, groove-hungry Manchester crowd!

Bill Brewster

EL DIABLO’s vs BILL BREWSTER

SAT 17th SEPTEMBER

PIN-UP

SPINNINGFIELDS

MANCHESTER

9PM ‘TIL LATE

Ever fancied disco dancing in a 1950s-style diner like John Travolta and Uma Thurman? Now’s your chance to do it with an El Diablo’s twist.

Pin-Up is a brand new 1950s-themed pop-up venue launching in Spinningfields on 16th September. It features four full-size ten pin bowling lanes, an American diner, a cocktail bar and a dancefloor with an eclectic genre-smashing music policy.

To celebrate the arrival of this unique new party palace, El Diablo’s have teamed up with legendary DJ historian and Lowlifer Bill Brewster for a one-off night of psychedelic disco-diner euphoria. Score a fast-eight, talk some jive, fill up with a mammoth burger and then work it all off to the sounds of two of the disco scene’s most treasured spinners.

And as it that wasn’t enough excitement for one night, we also have a live screen-printing session courtesy of the ‘Flood It’ artists from Waste Studio. Five top-notch illustrators will produce an exclusive screen-printed poster to commemorate the night, plus t-shirts and tote-bags to boot. All you have to do is bring down your own garment to get it printed.

All for a fiver – turn up or grab yourself a ticket from Skiddle here

Don’t miss out, Pin-Up leaves Manchester on November 6th.

JUSTIN ROBERTSON plus residents

SOUP KITCHEN

SPEAR  ST

MANCHESTER

10PM ‘TIL 4AM

Once known as the Hercule Poirot of House, Manchester’s dandiest DJ Justin Robertson has always been as tasty with a pair of 1210s as he is with a moustache comb and sideburn stencil. It feels like ages since he’s brought his multifarious record collection to a sweaty basement gig on home turf, so it’s with great pleasure that we announce his appearance at Blackout, our brand new night starting on August Bank Holiday Sunday. Blackout is an irreverent, irregular pop-up party organised in collaboration with fellow Manc party stalwarts Funkademia. Our maiden voyage will he held at the newly jazzed-up  Soup Kitchen cellar where you can dance your tripe out ’til 4 o’clock in the morning for a mere eights dabs (advance). Naturally enough, Justin will be flanked by your favourite El Diablo’s and Funkademia residents. Do not miss out on what is sure to be an acid-disco-techno-dancehall skirmish of unparalleled quality and depravity.

EL DIABLO’S SOCIAL CLUB 8TH BIRTHDAY !!!

COTTAM

DANIELLE MOORE (CRAZY P)

NEIL DIABLO

DAVE WALKER

ISLINGTON MILL

JAMES ST

SALFORD

5PM TIL VERY LATE

BBQ FROM 5PM PROVIDED BY SOUP KITCHEN

It’s P-A-R-T-A-Y time, we’ve only gone and made it to 8 YEARS OLD somehow. Don’t quite know how….but we have, and we are as keen as mustard to celebrate as raucously as humanly possible with all of our friends and comrades.  Sticking to our nu-nomadic principles, after last month’s  KRAAK gallery soiree with James Priestley, we are emigrating to the City Of Salford for an all day Balearic BBQ, preceding an eve of epic rave over at Islington Mill.

Our special guest is something of a hot ticket yet also rather enigmatic on the slo-mo house and discoid scene. His untitled series of 12 inch EP’s and his down tempo house, disco & techno DJ sets, position him alongside folks such as Mark-E and The Revenge as contemporaries, whilst at the same time ensuring that there is no one currently, that sounds quite like man of the moment, COTTAM !

Since his first release in Sept 2009, Cottam has now put out four eponymous EPs and worked with greats like Ilija Rudman.  Having spun techno for year upon year, he had a epiphany of sorts and these days embraces the full influence of his record collection.  Last year’s Causes Of Colour mix over on the Warm blog was in many people’s end of year lists and it’s a coup to bring him back to Manchester in his current guise and for your entertainment.

It’s Bank Holiday weekend, it’s day n night, it’s our Birthday !  No excuses, let’s get down and party.
